What is Sweat Concentration Testing & How Can it Help My Performance?

Sweat concentration testing is a very helpful process that tests how much sodium you lose in your sweat when exercising. The amount of sodium an athlete loses per litre of sweat can vastly vary between 200mg and 2000mg, which is why it’s so important to know - there isn’t really a one-size-fits-all approach to hydration. Being aware of the amount of sodium you’re losing in your sweat offers a range of benefits that will allow you to improve your hydration levels, and in turn your performance.

Benefits of Knowing Your Sweat Concentration

Having a sweat test allows you to optimise your fluid and electrolyte intake to prevent the drop off in performance athletes often see when they’re dehydrated. As well as this, studies have shown that acute pre-exercise sodium loading can actually increase performance. Other benefits include decreased muscle cramps and better awareness of your hydration requirements.

Overall, being aware of your sweat concentration levels allow you to take better care of yourself while training in a unique way that is directly targeted to you and your sweat concentration levels.

How Does a Sweat Concentration Test Work?

A trained sweat collector will carry out the test to maintain the highest standards, and patented medical technology will be utilised to collect and analyse your sweat. Sweat tests can be done in about 15 minutes, but generally can take up to 45 minutes to an hour to allow for plenty of questions. You’ll get your results immediately, so you can implement personalised strategies to improve your hydration and performance straight away.
